Stones set into carved metal, not onto it

Most commercial settings start from the stone: a mount is designed, the stone drops in, the metal disappears behind it. Here the metal comes first. The form is carved, then the stone is set into the face - garnets, rubies, blue sapphires, black and champagne diamonds, tourmalines. The result reads as a stone embedded in worked rock rather than as a solitaire.
